A lifelong Connecticut resident, David Conetta is just beginning to adjust to the weather in his new home, Rochester, NY where he attends the Rochester Institute of Technology. He is currently a first-year student majoring in Industrial Design with a minor in Modern United States History. Most comfortable in the three-dimensional form, David has found unique interpretations in untraditional metal and woodworking as well as in more classical glazed ceramics. Whether he is raiding his grandmother?s basement for scrap metal or working on the wheel in the studio, David finds influence in his daily life. His inspirations vary from Native American tribal rituals to South Americanmodern art sculptors. His interpretations are rare in providing a fresh point of view, even in a most hackneyed form. Without a true formal art education, David's style reflects his most innate responses to materials. The work breaks barriers of material conservatism that artistic maturity might limit. His strong sense of visual message paired with a distinct sense of humor carve a niche that is uniquely his own. His style could best be described as organic and emotional. David has received awards for his drawings, photography, digital media and sculpture. His sculpture has been in several juried shows, but this is his first gallery display, as well as his first AEPi show. |
