Liza Nechamkin Glasser--Silversmith

Sterling Silver Torah Shield with Photo of the Artist

Sterling Silver Torah Shield

Western Wall Mezuzah

I graduated from RIT with a BFA in Metalsmithing in 1995. Since July of that year, I have been a silversmith/ chaser for Tiffany&Company in NJ as a member of the Silver Holloware Department. Simultaneously I have also maintained a private studio where I do silver restoration and repair, custom hand-crafted silver holloware commissions, and original exhibition pieces. In recent years, I have entered into instructing silversmithing and chasing workshops at a variety of schools and institutions.

My work primarily consists of vessels and religious silver implements. My style has developed into a place where the forms have become a canvas for surface ornamentation, done through the art of Chasing and Repousse': a means of sculpturally embossing design motifs into the surface of the metal. It is an ancient technique, mastered by few, and proliferated by even fewer, which I hope to showcase with my work.
