Malchus Janocko pledged AEPi Rho Iota in the Spring of 1991 and graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology with a BFA in Painting and a minor in Glassblowing in 1994. Malchus has been working in New York since graduating from Carnegie Mellon with an MFA in Set Design in 1997. He started out freelancing for designers Jeremy Conway, Tim OÕBrien, Ted LeFevre, Doug Huszti, and Andy Warfel, and for Production Design Group (now a Jack Morton Company), Spaeth Design, and Hotopp Associates. He took a full time position at Hotopp Associates in 1998 and has had the opportunity to design for Television (MSG Networks, ESPN, The Gameshow Network, Nickelodeon, UPN), Automotive clients (Mini Launch, Ford, Jaguar, Chrysler, Volvo) Industrial and Tradeshows (TiVo, Sun Microsystems, EMC, Sprint, Coldwell Banker, Choice Hotels) theater (Pokemon Live tour, Radio City Christmas Spectacular) and exhibitry (The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame). Malchus had the flexibility at Hotopp to take on outside work, particularly production designing Oobi for the Noggin Network, and proposals for Comedy Central. Now Malchus is the Associate Creative Director for Matthew David Events, where he has been designing (through Hotopp associates and now as a full time employee) for three and a half years. Here, he has designed the Joint session of Congress, multiple Volvo events, and coordinated and managed design of corporate and private events for large (10,000) and small (10) clients. He is currently working on New York CityÕs Olympic bid presentation happening in February. Malchus is originally from Pittsburgh, and now lives in Brooklyn with his wife Rachel (also a set designer) and their 15 year old Volvo. He still has dreams of illustrating a comic book, and retiring to blow glass, but does find some time to put together assemblies, collages, and paintings.
